Resolutions 2017

Dear Miss Yen as at end 2017,

When you read this, i hope i am gone and you are doing a better job being me and being yourself.

I hope that you have went for/ going for/ enjoying the long awaited winter holiday.

I hope that your bank account will not be any worrying factor as at end 2017 unlike at end 2016 when you can only go window shopping. Have your bought that pair of earrings that you wanted yet?

I hope that your weight loss (if any) is permanent and not technology lies. Did you manage to exercise twice a week as i planned to?

At this point of time - after sending off half your students, it is normal to start feeling stress out and worrying about 'bringing food home' for the next few months. Do not be discouraged, instead take time out and spend it with friends that you have not been meeting due to the 'working weekends'.

Have you went on a trip with the parents yet? You have been planning one for ages and its time to execute one this year.

Lastly, how about the land travel that you have been researching since CS days? When will you be going? Remember, it is not about the destination, the journey matter more.

Darcy has been on e-coller for the major part of the year. Is the itch at his hind paw better? He has been sleeping more and more in 2016, i reckon its more due to boredom than tiredness. Does he still love Bishan Park as much? Or just being out of the house enjoying the breeze downstairs while people watching?

Remember, he only has you. Spend more time with him, bring him out for more walks and brush his teeth often.

Take care and be a better one.

Best Regards
Miss Yen from 2016

Should I try..

I read about a $5 movement last month and I know that I am unable to accomplished that - living on $5 a day for a week. My transport by mrt already cost more than $3 each day.

I have been wanting to save money for the past dunno how many years but nothing has been done.

Should I try a $10 movement for myself this February?

Although there is only 28 days this February, but let me have a bonus of 2 days to make it a neater lump sum of $300.

Hp bills for myself -$45
Easilink top up- $100

Remaining: $155 ($5.50 per day)

Reasonable? Yes.
Do-able? I dunno. I need to try this out. Lets see how long can I last.

Resolutions for 2014

1. Be puncture for work. Arriving at 9.30am, 9.40am, 9.50am consistently is not going to make my bosses very happy.

2. Exercise regularly, at least once a week. Gaining 2kg within the last 3 mths is not ideal for people over 30yo.

3. Submit my application for PR. Simply said, im just getting older everyday.

4. Save money and travel less. Need I say more.

How to go about achieving my resols..
1. Catch the Premium bus, even if I cant board, I won't be too late.

2. Cut down on Teh C every morning, sign up for pilates or aqua aerobic at CC, swim once a week when possible.

3. Prepare a checklist of the requirements and tick them off when completed.

4. Go to OCBC and change my current account. Direct transfer a certain amount of money at pay day to a separate accounts(Insurance, savings & investments). Review my insurance policies and start planning for retirement.

Travelwise, aim is to travel far and less. 1 dive trip, 1 short trip(less than 1wk or may combine with dive trip), 1 trip with parents(1wk) and 1 long trip(2wks).

Good bye 2013, it was good having you and Hello 2014, Welcome!!!

Last 2 weeks of 2012

Suddenly felt like a giant wave has wash upon me. The last few weeks of the year used to be the most laid back and snoozy period but not for this year. Since I got the confirmation of the new job I started feeling more and more busy and they are not due to this new position.

Felt like there are more things to be done. And in a rush to get them done. I hope all well will end well. Hope that the last 2 months of this year of the boar will be smooth sailing and may my prayers be answered. Thank you.

Filled with anticipations yet surounded by doubts. I need strength.

Thanks to those who have helped or supported me along the way.

我正在努力的活着。你呢?

To make this happen..

Was reading the blog of this korean lady 'Runaway Juno' who has make travelling her career. I could relate to her pretty much. The parts where she explains herself, to try to make sense of her quitting her job, going against her parents wishes, living for yourself and the courage to stop being a coward. She also talk bout how being a solo traveller felt, the inconvenience and the fun parts as well.

Yup. I am still a coward. Unwilling to let go of security, imagining that the world (at least my parents' world) will stop spinning if i am not around, waiting for someone to appear and drag me out of this silly race to earn more money. Seriously. Banking?? What am i doing here? I am not one who enjoy applying thick layers of makeup, stride in killer heels, carrying branded bags, talk about the latest manicures/pedicures designs. Sometimes, listening to my colleagues talk on about fashion just makes me zone out and imagine myself in my next travel destination, sitting by the river, sipping my cold drink, reading my book or staring into the blue skies, just chilling.

All i am interested to know is, how to make money while on the move? How to earn sufficient to substain my travelling expenses. Travel blogs? Travel and work? Work intensively for three quarters of the year and travel the remaining? What will be the best plans for me? I need to think about it and convince the heart or mind to follow through. I need to be strong and i am doing this alone. Its my time, my joy, my dreams, my happiness.

千里之行,始于足下。
When will i make my first step? Someday, oneday, when i am ready, when there are no strings pulling me back, i will.

Everything will be even more perfect if Darcy has a passport.

Woott...!!!

Excluding my classes, I spent $600 on food, shopping and grocery over the last 4wks.

It was tough, very tough having to control my spending. But at the end of the month, it felt worth it, thou I'm not seeing any effect yet. Haha.

Thanks to those who treated me to dinner or lunch. 感激!

Let's see if I can last for another month.

It's April already!!

27 more days to go! Seriously can't wait!

Gotta admit that Q1 has indeed flew by. What have I done and what have I accomplish? Most of my resols.... not met! Haha. Think I need to sit down, facing the wall and think of what I really want instead of toying with one idea after another.

Anyway, here it comes..

Resolutions for March 2012

1. Start my tuition. (Failed)
2. Spend only $600, ie $100 per week for food and leisure. (haha. Failed!)
3. Not travel in March but can buy airtic for after Mar. (done!)
4. Swim twice, climb twice, walk once. (failed, pass, half)
5. Go for tango! (failed)
6. Strike 4D? (haiz...)

So, how about resols for April.

1. Spend less than $600 (exc classes).
2. Go for all my 4 lessons.
3. Swim twice, climb and walk twice.
4. Decide on S.Korea or Sichuan.

That's all I guess.

Maybe I should start...

Setting a annual travel budget. I have never done this before though the few insurance agents I have did suggest for me to set one.

My travels are all determined by the number of annual leaves I have. Perhaps I should set a budget to make my savings plan more complete.

How much does normal ppl set aside for travelling?

2 month's pay? Seems too much.

Maybe 1mth Gross will be fine afterall my travelling style is budget.

My Thai trip cost approx 1.2k if I didn't remember wrongly.

Setting 2k for my Autumn in China, I think the remaining is just fine for my trip in May, budget.

敢敢。

One of the Resolution for 2012 is to take more photos. Be it during travelling, day to day or aob, I should shoot more.

Was thinking of my yunnan trip while on my way home just now and conclude that I have a few regrets.

Because I 怕死, I didn't dare to get lost. I didn't dare to wonder off the usual path to take the path less travelled hence I felt like a tourist when I got back.

Because I 怕死,I didn't dare to eat a lot of food. I was afraid of getting food poisoning or LS hence I only walk by and forgo many meals. Depending many lunches on the biscuits in my bag.

Because I 怕死,I didn't take out my dslr but instead used my compact during most times hence I feel un-exercised.

Because I 怕死,I didn't try adventurous stuff like hiking 虎跳 or taking the bike and venture off in shangrila hence I'm still regretting.

So, other than the resols to shoot more, 1 more resols is to care less and dare more.

Hobbies

I enjoy learning as long as there is no exams. Over my 20 over years, I had attended many lessons, most which I gave up halfway. Thinking, I feel like going back to pick up where I stopped. Maybe this list will help.

Learned halfway:
Motorbike*
Tennis
Piano*
Ceramics
Sailing
Wall climbing - level 1

Want to learn:
Oil painting
Kite sailing

Still learning:
Argentine tango

*Resolutions for 2012, to re-pick up from where I stopped.

Monthly Budget
Tango - $30x4=$120
Bike - $40x4=$160
Piano - $90

Total:$370/mth (Omg!)

I guess 3 classes a week is more than enough.

You think I can get my bike license by June? I need to get more long sleeves shirts.

Travelling wise, I seriously want to cut down. So going forward, I will only use my OT/PH claims. Hence once every 3 months to a nearby country.

For the next 2 years, I will not go to any parts of Thailand, Taiwan, NZ. Wish I could say the same for KL, but I know it is not attainable.

one of my resols for 2011..

To travel, but not to over-travel.

Meaning, at most 1 trip per quarter even if its to nearby getaways. As long as its gg to spend more than a day, with a chop in my passport, its a trip.

So far, I'm still doing good. Yeah!
